Minato Mirai
This route starts from the modern city of Minato Mirai (see “Model Course 1: Minato Mirai Bike Exploration Walk”) and heads towards the ancient city of Kamakura and Fujisawa Enoshima!
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine
Taking Route 21, this is the first spot you’ll visit in Kamakura! You’ll see a large torii gate, which marks the entrance to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. This shrine is the cultural heart of the samurai city of Kamakura and is synonymous with Kamakura sightseeing.
Komachi Street
Located right next to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Komachi Street offers a variety of Kamakura-specific gourmet foods and sweets. This area is always bustling with tourists, whether on weekdays or weekends, so please dismount and walk your bike while sightseeing. Also, be aware that eating while walking is not allowed in this area.
Route 134
The most famous road in the Shonan area, National Route 134. Cycling along this road with a view of the sea is incredibly refreshing, making it a popular route for road bike beginners and advanced riders alike. Along the coast, you’ll find many stylish shops and restaurants. If you have time, it’s worth exploring these various spots.
Inamuragasaki
Located along R134, Inamuragasaki is an ideal park for a rest stop. From here, you can see Enoshima and, on a lucky day, even Mt. Fuji. This view is one of the “Kanagawa 50 Scenic Spots” and is a must-see location in Kamakura!
Enoden
The Enoden is a train that connects Kamakura and Fujisawa. Its charming, classic cars are a beloved symbol among locals. Remarkably, the train runs on regular roads alongside cars for part of its route! Seeing the train up close like this is a unique experience you won’t want to miss!
Kamakura High School Station
The Shonan area is filled with spots featured in anime and dramas like “SLAM DUNK” and “Terrace House”! Stand in the same places as those iconic scenes you saw on TV and relive those emotions! A sports bicycle is the perfect way to go on a “pilgrimage” to the sacred sites of your favorite anime and dramas. It’s a very popular destination for tourists from both Japan and abroad!
Sangoshō (Western Cuisine & Curry Restaurant)
The rich and creamy curry made with carefully selected ingredients and plenty of dairy products is very popular! “Sangoshō” is a Hawaiian-style Western cuisine restaurant located along Route 134. Enjoying curry with a panoramic view of the Shonan ocean is an experience you won’t find anywhere else in the country. Recharge with a delicious curry and keep riding for the rest of the day! However, be aware that there can be quite a line on some days!
Enoshima
No explanation might be necessary! Cross the Enoshima Bridge from Route 134, and you can enjoy the yacht harbor, Enoshima Shrine, and various seafood and sweets shops. The famous local specialty, “Shirasu-don” (whitebait rice bowl), is especially well-known! Nearby, though not on the island itself, is the Enoshima Aquarium, affectionately known as “Enosui.” Along the beach, which exudes a tropical atmosphere, there are various dining establishments, making it a popular area bustling with people year-round.
